Lost & Found

If your cat is lost:

Don’t wait too long to take action — if it’s abnormal for you pet to be away for more than a day let us know as soon as you suspect he is missing. We will need to know your contact details in addition to details about your pet.
We need to know when/where your pet went missing, his colour, sex and if neutered. Was he wearing a collar? If so, what colour? Is he microchipped? Any special peculiarities — like a torn ear, unusual markings etc?
Have you got a photo we can use?

Things to do:

  • Contact your local vet to see if he’s been handed in, and give them details if he hasn’t.
  • Contact your local animal shelter to see if he’s been handed in. Dogs are usually kept for around 10 days before they can be rehomed (or euthanased in some places). There is no legal limit regarding cats, though we, at AAA, usually hang on to them for a couple of weeks before offering them for rehoming.
  • Let us know.
  • Put out a message on your local radio station.
  • Put a message in your local newspaper.
  • Put some posters round (with a picture if you can) on lamp-posts — and especially in the local pet shops and the vets.
  • Put flyers (with a picture on them) through doors in your neighbourhood.
  • Ask if anybody local has gone away lately in case he’s shut inside their house (unlikely, but it’s happened).
  • Check any shut sheds and garages.
  • Go out late at night (take someone with you) and call your pet. If it’s quiet you might hear him answer you.

We are glad to post your found and missing notices here, all we ask is that you let us know any updates about your pets.
